Yes, the Garage Kit is truly a work of art. The artisanal of those figures in Japan devote and dedicate their lives to creat a piece of state of the art Anime figures. Most of them are Anime fanatic, or "Otaku," and there are so many attractive features on them.
As myself being a Japanese, I have to say that I am proud of our people being able to create such delicate and fragile yet beautiful pieces of figures and garage kits of cartoon, or I should say Anime. One of the famous companies that make Anime figures is called Obitsu Corporation in Japan. What they do is they make parts of each body and put them together. This putting the parts together is the time consuming process. They have many layers of materials to create form and soft body and face. The face part for example has 14 masks and they air brush them like layers in Photoshop. The original parts go around 20 USD, but putting all of them together takes hours, and the complete figures cost somewhere around 100 to 800 USD, or sometimes more for the regular human body.
Akihabara, Tokyo is known as the central for those figures selling place. If you would like to find a true Japanese Garage Kit made by Japanese manufacture, you might want to visit the place. The city is filled with games, electrical stuff, and anime goodies. Many Otaku gather in the town. The common style of them is that they wear glasses, backpack, bringing some paperbags, and a poster. So, if you see them, you will soon recognize them from the far distance. They are extremely devoted to what they are into. If you ask them about a certain anime character, they will be able to tell all about the story, birthday, home town, and even a favorite food that might not be obvious in the original animation.
Did you know that some Japanese people wear costumes in game especially in Akihabara or Harajyuku area, which is only 3 stations away from my house by the way. In Akihabara, many pictures of figures are sold on top of the real ones, and people bond by even painting their car with those Anime pics. They drive around the town and non-Anime fanatics would be either amazed or make fun of them, but they do not really mind the others but being proud of their cars. The decoration inside the car of course is filled with figures and all the anime stuff. Well, that is the story about anime figures and people around it, so we hope you have a good dig on Garage Kit.
