I suppose it is just a terminology, but does anyone know the difference between Anime & Manga? We Japanese intuitively know this as we grew up with them. When you grow up in Japan, you grow up with anime, or manga. When I was a little the fun time was around 7pm everyday since all the anime & manga are on the TV. Many kids these days also enjoy their favorite anime. They will do their homework just to get a permission from their parents to watch them. I miss those days, and now that all the technology has evolved, you can actually watch the old time animation on the internet, cable TV, or even SateliteTV anytime you want.
Anyway, coming back to what is the different, Manga is something that you read with easy going attitude where Anime is more like intense maniac reading or drawing figure, just by our perspective. Of course, it is just something we used to feel towards them. So, if someone is trying to draw a statue of cute slayers figurine in the beautiful fashion costume with Manga Studio 5 and print the statues on the tee, we should say it is anime, though Anime & Manga are so related.
To further getting into the detail, did you know there are boy's manga and girl's manga? Most of animations you see on U.S. TV's are probably boy's anime. All of them from DragonBall and SaintSeiya to even LoveHina, which looks looks girly, are all targetted to boys and created in intention to sell to male readers. I am not sure why girls' manga do not go abroad, but there are some great ones like Nana and Life that are targetted to girls.
The origin of the girls manga was "Ribbon no Kishi" written by the legendary anime creator, Tezuka Osamu. Till then, anime is only a luxury that male could enjoy. Ironically enough though, Tezuka was a male anime creator. Nowadays, many female authors are enjoying writing anime for girls of all ages. The origin of anime as a whole started from not Japan, but Iran, or at least they are claiming they are the world's first anime holder. It is written on a 10x8 inch and the anime is about a goat trying to jump cross the wood to eat the grass. Anway, I hope you found the definition of differences in between Anime & Manga, and the origin of them in the large perspective.
